More to Win in Our Annual Naked Shopping Spree!

Local label Eighth of Judah just sweetened the prize pot for this year’s Naked Shopping Spree: they’re gifting the winner with an awesome bag (pictured above)! Hand-stitched and designed right here in PDX.

Along with the Eighth of Judah slouch bag, SE Portland’s champion naked shopper will go home with a $100 Red Light gift certificate, a Rock Socks prize pack ($60 value) and some custom undies from Snarky Cards ($20 value)…and EVERYTHING he/she puts on during the Naked Shopping Spree! Plus a jumbo trophy (currently on view at Red Light) and major bragging rights!

Second, third and fourth runners up also get a bunch of great prizes including clothes and gift cards from Red Light and socks from Rock Socks.

More than 100 people have already dropped their names in the pot, hoping to be one of the four randomly chosen to compete in the Naked Shopping Spree. And there’s still time for you to enter – anyone who makes a purchase at Red Light before store closing on April 20 can enter the Naked Shopping Spree drawing.

The Red Light’s Annual Co-Ed Naked Shopping Spree will happen on Sunday, April 24, at 5 pm. Event is open to the public. Come watch!

The Naked Shopping Spree is Back!

Red Light’s Annual Co-Ed Naked Shopping Spree will be happening on Sunday, April 24!

Anyone over the age of 18 who makes a purchase at our Hawthorne store between now and April 20 can enter their name in a drawing to be one of the four lucky contestants (two guys, two gals) who’ll get to streak through our shop in a mad dash for clothes and cash (a.k.a. Red Light gift certificates). Plus, this year’s prize pool is bigger than ever with local companies Snarky Cards and Rock Socks donating goodies. Meow!

Hundreds of people entered to run in the 2010 Naked Shopping Spree, and last year’s winner, Rich, will be on hand April 24 to crown 2011′s winner.

We’ll also have live music leading up to the big race at 5 pm, Snarky Cards herself in shop to make customized stationary just for you and a few other prizes and surprises to boot!

Here’s the skinny:

• All customers over the age of 18 who make a purchase at The Red Light may enter the drawing to be a contestant in the Co-Ed Naked Shopping Spree, happening on April 24.

• 4 entry names will be drawn after the store closes on Wednesday, April 20. The Red Light will contact those people by phone to confirm their role as contestants in the Shopping Spree. If a contestant is not available or does not respond to the call within 24 hours, he or she will lose their place and an alternate contestant will be selected.

• The Shopping Spree will start at 5 pm on April 24. Contestants will have 3 minutes to run through the store naked (or in skimpy underwear) and put on as much clothing as possible. At the end of 3 minutes, whichever contestant has put on the most clothes wins!

1st Prize: Wins all the clothes he or she puts on plus a $100 Red Light gift certificate, Rock Socks gift pack ($60 value) and custom underwear from Snarky Cards ($20 value)!

2nd Prize: Wins 5 pieces of clothing he or she puts on plus a $50 Red Light gift certificate and Portland Rock Socks.

3rd Prize: Wins 1 piece of clothing he or she puts on plus a $25 Red Light gift certificate and Portland Rock Socks.

4th Prize: $10 Red Light gift certificate, Portland Rock Socks and a naked voodoo doll.

• Any contestant who rips or otherwise damages clothing during the contest will be disqualified.

* The Co-Ed Naked Shopping Spree will be held at The Red Light, 3590 SE Hawthorne Blvd., on Sunday, April 24.

* Live music, entertainment and door prizes begin at 3 pm, Naked Shopping Spree at 5 pm.

* Meet local artisan Snarky Cards in person and have her make a custom card for you, beginning at 2 pm.

Pedalpalooza Starts Tomorrow!

Tomorrow kicks off Portland’s awesome 2 week celebration of all things BIKE, Pedalpalooza. You don’t have to be bonkers about bikes to join in the fun…There are tons of different themed bike rides, pretty much ensuring that there is at least one ride for everyone. Events are open to the public.

Here’s a few of the rides you might spot Red Lighters at:

Friday, June 11th: Hot Sock Ride II, a ride organized around Portland’s awesome sock culture. Wear your snazziest hosiery, hop on your bike and get treated to tours and treats with the city’s leading sock taste-makers and manufacturers.

Saturday, June 12th: Pee Wee’s Bike Adventure. It takes a black heart to resist anything Pee Wee Herman-themed.

Friday, June 18th: Pride Kick-Off Ride, the bike ride launching PDX’s Pride weekend!

Saturday, June 19th: World Naked Bike Ride, exactly what it sounds like! Just as entertaining as our Naked Shopping Spree…

What can we say about this but WOW. The Twilight fad has entered a totally new, creepy place. No, we’re not going to drop $500 clams on this mannequin pair but we thought it was weird enough that we should share it with you in some way…

Portland Urban Iditarod Today!

Lots fun happening around Portland today! Along with the sun, today brings Portland’s Urban Iditarod…It involves running and drinking and dressing in crazy costumes. Beyond that, we’re a little vague. You can find out more on thevent’s Wikipedia pagee . The race starts at 11:30 am under the east end of the Hawthorne bridge.

Of course, if you’d rather get some fly gear for yourself than watch other people play dress up, we’ve got hundreds of new goodies for you to peruse. Seriously, our buying counter has been BUSY lately – which means tons of new, awesome items on the racks!

Always Dreamed of Eating Robot Brains?

Have you always dreamed of dressing up as a zombie and eating robot brains? Or perhaps becoming a robot and melting a grimy zombie with electric lasers shot from your eyes?

Well, the opportunity to live out those dreams is almost upon you, right here in Portland.

PDX.fm are the mad geniuses behind ZOMBOTICA, a zombies vs. robots party going down at Dante’s on Mar. 13. There will be a boxing ring (for zombies and robots to duke it out), live bands, contests, raffles (The Red Light is providing some top secret prizes) and lots of booze to keep the party going, from 7 pm til after midnight.

$10 gets you in, and the whole thing will benefit the American Red Cross.

And, yeah, definitely dress up!

Naked Shopping Spree in The Oregonian!

Portland’s paper of note, The Oregonian, is showing us some love this weekend with an awesome feature all about our Naked Shopping Spree (which took place last Sunday). Naked Shopping Spree!

Thanks to all who came out for our Annual, Co-ed Naked Shopping Spree on Sunday – especially Felesha, Breanna, Janelle, and Rich, our awesome competitors!

The event was tons of fun and a huge success! For the first time ever, one of the male contestants chickened out so the competition was between 1 guy and 3 girls (instead of 2 and 2)…Female alternate Felesha jumped in to fill the vacant spot at the last minute and did an outstanding job.

Another first: this year’s lone male contestant, Rich, is also the only 2-time Naked Shopping Spree competitor! He ran in the 2008 Naked Shopping Spree and won this year…Guess he picked up a few tricks and tactics from his previous experience? Rich is now the official ambassador for The Red Light’s Naked Shopping Spree event; his name has been randomly chosen twice to compete from nearly 500 entrants. How can you not believe in destiny?

Janelle

Also, Janelle, our second place finisher this year has the distinct honor of putting on more clothes than any other woman in the history of this contest! In just 3 minutes, she put on 18 items – just shy of winner Rich’s 20 items.

Along with the many, many onlookers were multiple Portland media outlets. Seems our Naked Shopping Spree was the news story of Sunday, Feb. 21 (a nice change from police shootings). On hand covering the event were crews from KATU, FOX 12, The Oregonian and PDX.FM.

We had a great time and hope you did too! The 2010 Annual, Co-ed Naked Shopping Spree raised the stakes for next year…We’re already planning how to top it!

NAKED SHOPPING SPREE TODAY @ 5 pm!

How many clothes could you put on in 3 minutes?

Today at 5 pm we’ll find out just how many garments 4 fellow Portlanders (2 gals, 2 guys) can pile on in 3 minutes for our ANNUAL CO-ED NAKED SHOPPING SPREE! And, yes, they are going to start this contest totally nude!

We’ll have live music beginning at 3 pm to help get everyone warmed up…The public is invited to come watch and cheer on our contestants!
