Red Light Redux: Mick Jagger

Over the weekend, the usually swell New York Times ran a nice little piece about the always swank Mick Jagger, lead singer of the Rolling Stones and sharp-dressed man for at least the last four decades. The photo above accompanied the article. Total cost for his NY Times ensemble: $2,338 (plus unknown thousands for the antique brooch, price available upon request, from Fred Leighton). Sir Mick’s outfit breaks down thusly:
- Junya Watanabe Man Comme de Garcons jacket, $1,440
- Marc by Marc Jacobs shirt, $188
- Lanvin scarf, $710
Well, guess what? You can recreate Mick’s dapper, rock ‘n’ roll look for a helluva lot less at Red Light. It took us about 10 minutes to put together this outfit with pieces we found on our racks:

- vintage velvet blazer, $14
- vintage shirt, $10
- tie-dye scarf, $9.95
- vintage brooch, $6
Total cost for Red Light’s Mick Jagger style redux: $39.95 That’s a difference of $2,298.05 (and that’s not even including the cost of Mick’s brooch!).
(Thanks for being our impromptu Mick, Jen!)

Who Loves Johnny Thunders?

Who loves Johnny Thunders? We do! But we were beyond surprised to read Simon Doonan, famed Barney’s window dresser, singing JT’s praises in The Daily Beast.
Mr. Doonan basically writes that what the world needs now is a little Johnny Thunders; the New York Dolls guitarist had serious cool and serious personal style, not to mention great talent. How could you not be inspired by just that hair?

Do You Like/Love Vintage Blacklight Posters?

Along with being crazy about vintage clothes, if you’ve ever been in The Red Light you might have noticed that we also have a thing for vintage velvet paintings and blacklight posters. Judging by how many people ask us everyday if our posters or paintings are for sale, we’re betting that a number of our customers share our fondness for tacky pop art.
If you’re one of them, then check out this book: Ultraviolet by Dan Donahue, with an introduction by MGMT. The book features 69 premium vintage blacklight posters reproduced in full color with light sensitive inks so they glow under blacklight just like the originals!

Turns out this tome came out in October ’08! We’re shocked we didn’t hear about it sooner (especially since the publisher, Abrams Image, also produced our book on vintage rock T-shirts, Rock Tease), but what can you do?
Just put on “Electric Feel”, open the book and enjoy the psychedelic explosion!
