In a town known for its incredible vintage shopping, with quite a few stellar vintage stores, it really means something to be chosen as the best…Red Light is tremendously flattered to be voted Portland’s Best Vintage Store in the Portland Mercury’s Readers Choice awards. THANK YOU PORTLAND!
(Also, a special thank you to Portland Mercury for putting together the awesome Readers Choice awards and supplement, as well as to Cecilia D’Anastasio for the excellent profile of our shop!)
Portland’s KGW Channel 8 surprised us by popping in the store yesterday morning…They interviewed Red Light staff and customers for a news segment on second hand stores.
While the KGW crew originally planned to only film at the Goodwill boutique on Hawthorne, they were so intrigued by the crazy, fun looking store across the street (Red Light!) that they had to come over and check us out!
The segment aired on last night’s evening news, but you can watch it here at www.kgw.com.
Thanks for the surprise photo opp, guys!
We are so flattered to be included in GQ magazine’s just-released list of the 25 Best Vintage Stores in America! Not only is The Red Light the only store in the Northwest to make the list, we are one of the only budget-friendly stores to make the grade…Most of the other stores in GQ’s round-up are high-end vintage boutiques where you pay $50+ for a flannel you could score at The Red Light for $14.
It’s an honor to be recognized as the best in the nation – thank you GQ!
And thank you fashion fiends of Portland…While we work hard to continually improve The Red Light, we see this accolade as a reflection on the great style and creativity of PDX as much as The Red Light!
Portland’s paper of note, The Oregonian, is showing us some love this weekend with an awesome feature all about our Naked Shopping Spree (which took place last Sunday). Along with a great article by Peter Ames Carlin, the feature includes lots of action photos – and if you check things out online, a video of the event itself!
Once again, thank you to all who came out to watch the Naked Shopping Spree and especially our four awesome contestants!
Also, big thanks to Peter, Motoya and Brent at The Oregonian for their excellent coverage and celebrating local business!

Time is ticking if you want to enter The Red Light’s annual, Co-ed Naked Shopping Spree – tomorrow is the last day to throw your name in the ring!
Friday night (Feb. 12) we’ll be drawing out of a hat the names of 4 customers (2 guys, 2 gals). They’ll be the people you see running through the store naked, trying to put on as many clothes as possible, on Sunday, Feb. 21 at 5 pm. All of the contestants win prizes, but whoever puts on the most clothes wins everything he/she puts on plus a $100 Red Light gift card!
Even if you aren’t selected to run, come to The Red Light to watch! This event is open to the public, and we’ll be “warming up” all afternoon with live music and door prizes.
The Red Light’s Naked Shopping Spree has already received coverage in PDX Neat Sheet, MOD and pdx.fm – be there or be square!
